Our braided leather dog leashes, leads, tabs and collars are painstakingly created from the finest imported kangaroo leather, latigo and Indian tanned hides in the world. True mastery of the art of leather braiding is dwindling. The braiding techniques we use to create our pieces originated with the old masters. Whether you are looking for a braided leather show leash or collar or just for every day use, we'd love to create the piece you are looking for. All braiding and plaiting thongs are hand cut to uniform widths and thicknesses. Thong edges are beveled and burnished before braiding is begun. Only hand poured Solid bronze or stainless steel fittings will be used for your braided leashes and collars.

We import all our kangaroo lace and leather directly from Australia. Kangaroo is an extremely strong, durable and beautiful leather that, with use, achieves a luxurious buttery softness not found in any other leather. The diameter of each finished braided leash or collar varies, graduating from elegantly tiny (slightly less than 1/8" in diameter) to fairly substantial (slightly larger than 1/2" in diameter), depending on the width of the braiding thongs (2.5 mm (3/32"), 3.0 mm (1/8"), 4.77 mm (3/16", 6.0 mm (1/4")), the thickness of the braiding thongs, the number of thongs braided into the piece and whether or not a core is used. Different appearances can be achieved by varying the braid pattern and the color or number of colors of leather used for each project. The most popular and common braided kangaroo leashes and collars are done with either 4, 6, or 8 thongs. Braids of four thongs can be done in a single color or as bi-color braids. With six thong braids, one, two or three colors can be combined for some very beautiful and unique looks. With eight thongs, up to four colors can be selected. It is possible for us to braid 24 individual thongs into a single project!
Just as with any other leather project, imagination, originality and skill are required to make beautiful braided leather pieces.
The sliplead is a great choice for the show ring for an all-in-one collar and lead. It is beautiful, elegant and quiet. The tiny braided kangaroo sliplead pictured here is done in a four thong round self-coring diamond braid pattern with 3/16" thongs. It is snowy white with a small stainless steel ring. As with our other kangaroo braided leads and collars, it can be done with multiple colors. Creating this lead with larger thongs or with more thongs or with a core will create a lead that is more substantial.

Our braided kangaroo traffic leads can be done in any length preferred. Most popular lengths range between 6-inches and 12-inches. The kangaroo traffic lead shown here is approximately 12-inches in length and is done with a four-thong braid. Braids done with six or eight thongs are more substantial. Braids can be done using a single color or with 2, 3, or 4 colors. These traffic leads are fantastic for off-leash obedience work since they are so light and do not interfere with the working dog but still provide the handler with a quick hand hold.
