General Information

Most of the commercially available leather equipment for your dog that you will find sport hardware made from nickel plated steel, zinc die-cast or brass plate. It is true that most of the allergy and irritation reactions some dogs have to their equipment is due to the high nickel or zinc content in the hardware metals. If you've made it this far in your leather dog harness selection, you will likely agree that selecting top notch leather and inferior hardware will lead to a disappointing piece of equipment. Our hardware is never plated but is made from only the best available solid brass, sand-cast Italian bronze and marine grade stainless steel made domestically or internationally. Regardless of your preference, our hardware will provide the best and longest service with minimal maintenance.

Nearly any of our leather dog harnesses can be personalized with either a brass or silver engraved plate. For our engraved flat plates, unless a specific plate size is requested, all plates are of appropriate size for the width of the harness strap and we will permanently afix each plate to your new leather dog harness. All engraving is elegantly etched for superior legibility.

While there really is no set number of characters that can be engraved on each plate, just remember that the more text you want engraved, the smaller the engraving will be.

Go ahead, spoil your dog! If extra cushy is what your dog needs in a leather dog harness, there are a number of wonderful soft linings available. Nearly any of our leather dog harnesses can have the beauty and comfort of an elk, lamb's wool, finished pig, calfskin, or kid goat lining added. Each lining is carefully secured with the same adhesive and stitching process used in the making of fine leather shoes. Even with our wonderful soft hand-selected leathers, the extra softness of a harness lining can help cut down on hair loss or skin irritations sometimes suffered by those more sensitive dogs. Stitching can be done in your choice of thread color.

The leather dog harness shown here is done in the red medium temper bull hide and is fully lined with New Zealand lamb's wool. Whatever your choice, all of our leather dog harness linings are wonderful. We're glad to help you make the right choice.

Does your dog pull and constantly stretch even the toughest equipment out of shape a bit? Adjustment hole eyelets for your new leather dog harness may be the solution to your problem. Securely seated and guaranteed never to come out, eyelets can make your leather dog harness even more secure and add an attractive original touch, as well. Eyelets are available in brass, silver and black.

For a touch of snazz for your leather dog harness, studs can be added to nearly any harness. All studs are securely rivet set and will not come out. We offer flat studs in silver or brass, domed studs in silver or brass as well as gemstone studs in a number of vibrant colors.

If you enjoy the tough Gladiator look, silver harness spikes can be added to your new leather walking harness. All spikes are securely seated and are guaranteed never to come out. Spikes are available in two sizes and can be mixed.

When measuring your dog, be patient. Reasonably accurate measurements are essential for a properly fitting and adjusting harness. Remember that this may be a new experience for your dog so take your time. To measure, it is best to use a cloth measuring tape such as the kind that seamstresses use. Pull the tape snug for all measurements (no fingers!). If you do not have a measuring tape, you can use a piece of yarn or string and then measure the string with a rigid ruler. • Girth: The circumference of the rib cage of your dog just behind the front legs where your dog's chest is the deepest.
• Length: The length of your dog from the base of the neck to the base of the tail; that is, from where the dog's neck attaches to the body to where the tail attaches to the body.
• Weight: The weight of the dog.
• Sternum to shoulder: The distance from the point of the sternum, angled up beside the neck to the little dip on the top of the dog's back between the shoulder blades.
• Breed, Age, Sex: The breed, age and sex of the dog.
